The painting is based on the location: Umeälven, Umeå

The Ume River is one of Norrland's major rivers, flowing from the mountains on the Norwegian border, through the inland forests and then right through Umeå, on its way to the sea.

Around the river, rich nature spreads out, consisting of lush coastal groves, deciduous forests and open coastal meadows. At the mouth of the river, two large deltas have formed, Österfjärden and Västerfjärden, which are important places for migratory birds during spring and autumn.

I have collected pigments directly from the site such as stones from river banks. I have also used sand, charcoal, earth, brick and acrylic paints. Marble flour as texture and details with oil pastel, pencil and gold leaf. The presence of the river is felt not only in the materials, but in the very way the colors have been allowed to flow, flow and create their own shapes just like the river itself.
