The painting is painted from the Tvärån River in Umeå.
The painting “Tvärån” is painted from a small, centrally located river in Umeå. The river flows into the Umeälven, has a high natural value and functions as an ecological and green corridor close to the urban area. The river is mainly home to grayling, but also a small population of pike and sea trout that move up from the Umeälven into the river. There is a rich birdlife around the site, mallards swim daily along the river that I pass every day on my way to and from my studio.
Projects are being carried out to reduce the impact of pollution and create better water quality because Tvärån is very sensitive to environmental toxins and nutrient input.
Along the river at Kvarnbron I have found stones that I have created paint from and used in the painting. Since I myself have often looked down into the river from above from the bridge, I have painted from that perspective. I see mallards there almost every day from the bridges and fallen trees that find their way down into the river around the mill bridge.
